Tourism development in the Murmansk region was discussed at the BRICS forum
“The Arctic is having a moment today, the arrow of “tourist compass ”is facing the north, and the interest of travelers in Murmansk region is growing,” - this is how Olga Kuznetsova, Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region, began her report at the Second International Municipal Forum of the BRICS countries.
It was online forum held November 5 and 6. Development of Arctic tourism was discussed during the session dedicated to the search for new tourist routes.
“Example of our region is showing us that the interest in domestic tourism has grown. We understand that Murmansk region needs rapid and large-scale infrastructure development. Today we shall discuss several projects, including Teriberka development project, creation of natural park that will preserve unique landscapes. We will share our experience and listen to participants from other regions and countries - Brazil, India, China, South Africa,” noted Olga Kuznetsova.
As the vice-governor emphasized, a new, promising and challenging direction for our region is industrial tourism. It is planned to develop it with participation of our regional government.
Kovdorsky mining and processing plant, the plant for processing northern berries "Kolskiy Kray", "Olkon" - the Olenegorsky mining and processing plant, as well as the Kola nuclear power plant have already become leaders in industrial tourism development in the Arctic.
